Appeals
If one of your tutees gets into very serious academic difficulties, then you may be asked to support them at a Review or Appeals Committee (or in the worst case the Standing Academic Committee).
As their tutor, it is your job to represent the student’s interest, not the University’s. Make sure that your tutee has discussed the case thoroughly with you beforehand and try to establish that they have been completely honest.
There is nothing worse than learning something new during the meeting that subsequently ruins your entire case. If you are asked by a student to do this and you are unsure what to do, please feel free to contact me and I can help talk the matter through. The first occasion you accompany a student who is facing the prospect of being excluded from the University can be rather daunting!
